Visual editors

Info.plist, assets and app icons, icon documents, localized strings and project settings.

Double-click these files in the Explorer and they open in a visual editor. What gets saved is still the original file format, exactly what Xcode opens. To see the raw file, right-click it and choose Open as Text, or switch from the editor title bar.

Property lists

The same Key / Type / Value table as Xcode. Right-click a row to add a row or child, delete it or copy its key path; common keys show readable names. Provisioning profiles (.mobileprovision) open read-only with their certificates, devices and entitlements.

Property list editor

Files keep their original format (XML or binary) by default; the "Plist Save Format" command switches it. Sorting keys on save, the Root row and row spacing are controlled by kxapp.plist.sortKeysOnSave, kxapp.plist.showRootRow and kxapp.plist.spacing.

Asset catalogs

The entry tree is on the left and the selected entry on the right. Create app icons, image sets, color sets, data sets, symbol image sets and folders, and drop images into their slots.

Asset catalog editor
  • App icons: "Fill All Sizes from 1024×1024 Image…" fills every slot at once; older multi-size icons convert to a single-size icon; visionOS and tvOS icons and top shelf images are supported.
  • Set App Icon from Image…: right-click a target in the Xcode Project view, pick an image, and the icon is generated and wired up to the target.
  • Compile-check: check the catalog before you ship to catch missing icon sizes or wrong image formats early.
  • A new asset catalog is added to the target's resources phase, no trip to Xcode needed.

Icon documents

Icon Composer .icon documents: edit groups, layers and fills, and import image assets. Previews match Xcode, in the default, dark and tinted appearances.

Localization

String catalogs (.xcstrings) and classic .strings / .stringsdict files are edited in one table, with translation progress for each language.

  • Add Language… also registers the language with the project, as Xcode does.
  • Sync Strings with Source Code scans your source for localization calls and adds new keys. List custom localization macros in kxapp.l10n.extraMacros.
  • Vary by plural or device, substitutions, mark as needs review / reviewed, and mark as don't translate.
  • Changing source text marks existing translations as needing review, like Xcode (kxapp.l10n.markSourceEditsForReview).

Project settings

Open project.pbxproj, or right-click the project or a target in the Xcode Project view and choose Edit Project Settings / Edit Target Settings. There are General and Build Settings tabs.

Project settings editor
  • Build settings use Xcode's groups and names; enumerated values are picked from a menu.
  • The Levels view shows the target, project, xcconfig and default levels together with the resolved value.
  • Set values per configuration (Debug / Release) and add user-defined settings.
  • Saving changes only the settings you edited, so your commits show exactly what changed.
The Levels view of Build Settings

Changing project settings and adding assets or languages need the xcodeproj component. The extension offers a one-click install the first time, or run gem install --user-install xcodeproj yourself.
