About KXApp
iOS development in VS Code
KXApp is a lightweight iOS IDE built on VS Code, installed as a free VS Code extension. Swift, SwiftUI and Objective-C code completion, one-key builds, running and debugging on iPhone and the simulator, unit tests, and visual editors for Info.plist, app icons, localization and project settings. Your Xcode project stays as it is, so you can switch back to Xcode at any time.
The product
What KXApp does
Writing code, building, debugging on a device, running tests and changing project settings: the everyday work of iOS development, all in VS Code.
Swift code completion
Completion, go to definition, hover docs and live errors for Swift, SwiftUI, Objective-C and C++, including third-party libraries and Swift packages.
Code completion →One-key builds
Switch scheme, configuration and run device from the status bar. Cmd+B builds, and a click on an error takes you to the line.
Build and run →Debug on iPhone and simulators
Cmd+R installs and launches your app on an iPhone or simulator, with breakpoints, variables, call stack and console in VS Code.
Debugging →Unit tests
Run XCTest and Swift Testing cases from the Test Explorer with a click; failures are marked on the line.
Unit tests →Visual editors
Info.plist, entitlements, assets, app icons and localized strings all get a visual editor, so you never hand-edit XML.
Visual editors →Project settings
Edit signing, version numbers and build settings visually. Open the project in Xcode afterwards and everything looks the same.
Project settings →Why
Write code in VS Code.
Stop switching back and forth.
Plenty of iOS developers already write code and use AI assistants in VS Code, yet still switch back to Xcode to build, debug or change a build setting.
KXApp brings those steps into VS Code. No migration, and the results match Xcode: from writing code to debugging on an iPhone, one editor is enough.
KXApp is made by a team focused on iOS developer tools, and the extension is what we build for iOS development in VS Code.
What we stand for
An extension you can install without a second thought
-
01
Same results as Xcode
Building, signing and installing are done by the Xcode on your Mac, so if your project runs in Xcode, it runs in VS Code, and you can switch at any time.
-
02
No migration
Open your existing Xcode project and start. Nothing is converted or generated, and settings you change look exactly the same in Xcode.
-
03
Free, no account
Every feature is free. There's nothing to sign up for, and the extension doesn't upload your code.
-
04
Issues in the open
Bugs and suggestions are discussed publicly on GitHub, so you can always see where things stand.
